Further information
Our slightly more demanding and longer e-bike tour starts in Portorož – the Port of Roses. We join the Parenzana cycle route and ride across Cape Seča, past the Sečovlje salt pans, and through vineyards in the Dragonja Valley, enjoying peace and unspoilt nature. We climb among vineyards and olive groves to the villages of Koštabona and Pomjan. The route then levels out, opening beautiful views of Slovenian Istria and the Karst. We stop in Marezige for a tasting of Istrian delicacies, then continue via Montinjan towards Vanganel. In Koper we rejoin the Parenzana – the Path of Health and Friendship – which leads past Izola and Strunjan back to Portorož.
- Introduction of the tour: first we will give you basics information about our tour. What we will see and what we will do.
- Electric bike instructions: presentations of electric bikes. Haw they are working. On what you needed to be care. Trial driving with electric biks.
- Portorož-the flower town: we start our lovely tour in Portorož.
- Paranzana: in Lucija the road joins the popular Paranzana cycling track through camp Lucija and to the Cape Seča past gardens of cactuses and further to the Canal of St. Jernej.
- Salt pans of Sečovlje: eBiking through the entire salt pans of Sečovlje. Here a short stop will be made in order to get some healthy sea air full of iodine. Then the tour continues to the crossing border of Sečovlje and further to village Dragonja along the national border.
- The valley of the river Dragonja: the tour runs between the wineyards, which soon turns into a macadam road. It slowly goes uphill but the beautiful peaceful surroundings makes it easier. A house or two with its own wineyards can be seen on the way. In the past this lonely valley was full of water mills. However, a mill or two is still preserved for you to see.
- Koštabona: cycling uphill will be a perfect test what an eBike can manage. The ascent to the wineyards and olive plantations ends up in the village Koštabona.
- Pomjan: here the road straightens and you reach the highest point of the village called Šavrin's hill 342 metres high. The village got its name after the apple plantations (pomi) which covered the surroundings of the present village in the past.
- Marezige: up and down of this hill the road takes you to the larger Istrian village where a stop for an Istrian snack waits for you. Enjoying the local food with a glass of wine will be very refreshing.
- Montinjana, Vanganel: a descent to the vally leads us through Montinjana and then to Vanganel.
- Koper: Here the tour reaches Koper, the largest city on the Slovenian coast. If you have energy left, explore the old town and Tito Square with its Venetian-style bell tower. Enjoy views of the Praetorian Palace and the Loggia.
- Parenzana: The Parenzana, the “Path of Health and Friendship,” is a scenic 123 km cycling and hiking route following the former narrow-gauge railway from Trieste in Italy, through Slovenia, to Poreč in Croatia. It passes picturesque Istrian landscapes, medieval towns, vineyards, tunnels, and bridges, with numerous rest areas offering information along the way.
- Izola, Strunjan: The Parenzana leads you through Izola and Strunjan. Izola is a traditional fishing town where you can discover its maritime heritage. In Strunjan, stop for a short walk through the salt pans and visit the information center to learn about salt-making.
- Wine tasting: our socialising does not end at this point. We will afford ourselves a glass or two of good wine and sum up all the impressions of the tour.
- After the final part of Istria&Dragonja tour you will not be rushed. We offer you the possibility to rest and enjoy in the greenery of our large mediterranean garden.
